Free Upgrade to Windows 10 pro failed - Solution

If you have a genuine windows, then you can choose to upgrade your old version of windows to the new Windows 10.
Of course if you don't want, no need to worry. Suppose if you want to access windows apps - which is by the way not possible with windows 7. So you can upgrade to windows 10 and get all your favourite app. Just follow these steps..

If you are a genuine windows user and connected to internet, you will automatically get a windows 10 alert on your right side of the taskbar with windows 10 symbol.

If you click it, you will be asked to reserve your upgrade which is completely free.

Once reservation is confirmed, when it is available it will ask your permission to download windows 10.

Once you start the download you needn't wait for the download to complete fully. If you are only half done, it is no problem closing your computer. The download will automatically start each time you turn on your computer and continues to downloading process.

You can check your download progress by going to
Control Panel - system and security - windows update (in windows 7)

Once the download is finished, you will get the notification.

When you click the upgrade, it will automatically starts to upgrade. It may take a while, so you need to be calm

But here is where I got stuck, and failed to update.

When the download is finished, I couldn't make the windows 10 update. It showed the error code like below,

I tried to do the whole process by again downloading the 2 GB update. It failed twice and wasted me a lot of time.

Solution:

I surfed internet and found that there is an other way of downloading the same update file. But now, you can install it any time using a media creation tool.

You can download the media creation tool from windows website

Now, do the same download using this media creation tool - but you need to be careful, because it is one time download. You cannot close your pc in the middle of download as you did in the previous method. [If there is no power connection in the middle, just use Hibernation mode in your computer].

Now do the same upgrade procedure, once the download finished. But now, you will able to run the installation procedure.

You need to wait for the installation procedure to finish. [ Now, you don't need to worry about power supply anything.. Even the installation interrupted, it will continue without any error next time you turn on your pc.

And follow the procedure as follows in your installation.

When you finished all these steps, you will have your new windows 10 upgrade.

Note: If you are not comfortable with windows 10, you can at any time, restore your old windows. So, you can give it a try to windows 10.

How to install Android apps on your smartphone using your Computer's Internet Connection

When you don't have any internet account balance in your smartphone, but wanted to download and install Android apps [say for example from google play store] from the Internet connection of your PC or laptop, the best solution I found is Mobogenie.

[ Of course, if you have WiFi adapter in your laptop, you can create a WiFi hotspot and can use Internet connection to your smartphone. But, if you are using broadband connection and don't have WiFi adapters, you can use this way. ]

I tried many other ways like "Reverse tethering" - where you can use your computer's Internet connection e.g. Broadband connection to surf on your smartphone.

Using "Reverse tethering", you can surf, download and install all things from your computer's Internet connection.

But I found, Reverse tethering needs a little technical things like Rooting your Android phone, super user permissions and etc. Really, there are quite many ways to Reverse tether.

Here, I want to share the simplest way only for dowloading and installing apps on your smartphone from your computer's Internet connection [ Note: You cannot surf using this method ].

The steps you need to follow is,

First, go to the Mobogenie website by searching it on the Internet, download the mobogenie for PC and install it in your PC or laptop.

After you installed mobogenie on your computer, whenever you connect a new android device in your computer and open mobogenie, it automatically connects with your android phone.

It also installs the mobogenie app in your android phone.

Here is the very important thing, Mobogenie connects with your android phone only if and only, if you have enabled "USB debugging in your android phone - which you can find it in developer options in settings menu.

I made some photos of each step, so you can confirm with those in case you have some problems.

To enable USB debugging mode, Go to the Settings - Developer options

Go to Developer Options and Click the USB Debugging options which asks you for the confirmation like below

Click "Ok" and you are done with usb debugging. Now, whenever you open Mobogenie when your computer is connected with your android phone, it automatically installs and does the necessary thing in your android.

You can see the mobogenie logo in your android phone once it is done with installation

Now, with this installed mobogenie app, you can at any time download and install any Android apps to your smartphone via your PC's Internet connection.

You can also manage all your contacts, can download videos, games and etc.

The best advantage of using this is, you don't need to run out of your house to get internet signal. Instead you can get High speed Internet from your PC itself in your home.

Computer freezes with White lines on monitor screen

The most recent problem appeared on my computer is that....

Problem:
When I work for a while in my desktop PC, it automatically freezes down with white horizontal and vertical lines on the desktop monitor screen. All the hardware components such as mouse, keyboard or any input-output connections stopped working suddenly.
The only thing you can do is just unplugging the PC..

Reason:

When I surfed on the internet, I learned that the common reasons would be such as,
Loose connection of your VGA port - where you will connect your monitor cord (or)
Graphics card problem which you can find it in the motherboard
But if your computer don't show any lines when you boot up in other operating system then the definite problem would be with your windows which may be corrupted.

Solution:

Try to reattach monitor cord firmly (use the same with graphics card). Do all the basic solution stuff  Free-of-cost-solutions-for-computers

Boot in safe mode and if your windows is corrupted - back up all your data. Insert your windows CD and try to repair the windows.

Again if the problem continues, the only way is remove your windows OS and reinstall it using the CD.

That is what I did finally for my computer!! Thank God I didn't have any important data for backup..

Power Switch in computers

When you look out for computer problems, one of the simple problems could be your power switch.

Problem:
Computer doesn't start when you press the power switch. Computer does give no response when you switch it for multiple times.

Reason:
It should be either due to any fault in your SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply)) or due to the connection problem in the power switch.

Some of the computer does have an indicator in the motherboard. If that light blinks, when you turn on the power supply (not the power switch in CPU), it indicates that power is coming to CPU and your SMPS is just working fine. But if the computer doesn't start after switching the power switch, then there is a problem.

Solution:
The problem with power switch can be solved, just be reconnecting it again. Still if doesn't work, carefully take down that connection from the mother board and change it with the new one bought from your nearby Electrical store.

To reconnect the switch you can take it out by slowly removing the front panel of CPU as follows,

You can trace the wire connection to motherboard and reconnect it with itself or new one. But you will learn one thing about, How the power switch works in a Computer.

Free of cost solution for basic problems in your computer

Dealing with computers has become a routine for me, since I myself own 6 computers in my home. Only one of them is good which is a laptop and all others are old PCs.
But a very really good thing than can happen to you with your old items is that, you will learn something about it when you mess with it.
As the same, in my house with a standard pattern [Not the same computer, but one by one in a different order], they will at least make problems once in a day.
From those pattern, I did realized some most common problems that may occur in our computers. And they are,

Problem-1:

One of the first common basic problem you may experience is,
'When you work with multiple tabs, suddenly your computer freezes and not a single switch works [including mouse, keyboard, etc.], where you need to restart your computer manually.

Reason:

It is due to your RAM and its low capacity.

Solution:

Of course if Restart solves your problem, no need to worry. But if the problem persists, you can try this,

Open your CPU case

Look out for RAM attached in Motherboard like given below

Flip the lids and take out the RAM and rub with rubber or any clothes

And fix it again and restart. Most of the initial times of your computer, this may be the first problem you may face it.

Still if the problem persists, and computer doesn't work at all, then the problem would be different.

Problem-2:

Computer doesn't start after working for a long time, but starts when you leave the computer for one day rest.
(or) it would show BSOD (Blue Screen of Death  -where nothing will work in your computer) but with a warning  message
(or) when you start your computer, it shows the message
"CMOS checksum error" or "CMOS failure occured".

Reason:

All these problems are due to old CMOS which needs to be replaced soon.

Solution:

If it shows for the first time, you can just take your CMOS and reinstall after cleaning it. If problem persists, you should change your CMOS battery.
Note: Reinstalling CMOS battery clears all registry settings.
Most of the BSOD problems could be solved by clearing and restarting registry settings and so reinstalling CMOS is the best way.

To take out CMOS battery, as same as previous, open the CPU, and you can find the CMOS in the motherboard looks like below,

Just flip the pin and take out the battery

Buy a new battery or just place it again [most of the CMOS would be CM2032]
Thus You can replace your CMOS.

When you do this, eventually reinstalling all the hard wares with itself but with just some "cleaning" would solve many problems that is going to happen in your computer.

Wikipedia in your hands

Today I was discussing about Maxwell with my friends. In our discussion we came to a doubt that where he was born. We had internet access and so immediately going to the site Wikipedia we got the answer as Scotland.

When you want any information through online you will instantly go to the site Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is the place you can get information about anything and everything

But you can't always have internet access or any broadband services in your latest android mobiles or iphones or in your computer.

Sometimes you will need some important information or you will need to clarify any of your doubts when you don't have internet access.

In those kind of situations, you don't have to go to anywhere else but you can get all the information simply using the software called kiwix in your mobile phones or computers.

Kiwix is an offline reader for web content. It's a software especially intended to make Wikipedia available without using Internet, but it is potentially suitable for all HTML contents.

Full text search engine

Bookmarks & Notes

HTTP server

PDF/HTML export

User interface in more than 100 languages

It runs on a big range of operating systems, on Android and

on the three main PC operating systems:

To download Kiwix go to this link

You can get any information on Wikipedia using the software kiwix without any type of internet access.

Kiwix is a free software and it is mostly installed in schools, universities and libraries which can't afford a broadband Internet access. It's so much faster than the Internet and also can be used by many institutions to save bandwidth and reader's time.

Kiwix is really easy to use. It provides a range of features which make the usage comfortable:

Microsoft Windows,

Apple Mac OSX and

GNU/Linux distributions.
